Location & Transportation

To visit Nagarkot, Nepal, the most convenient airport to fly into is Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu. This is the only international airport in Nepal, located approximately 30 kilometres (18 miles) from Nagarkot.

Several transportation options are available to reach Nagarkot from Kathmandu, each with varying costs depending on the type of transport and comfort level.

  • By car/taxi: 1.5 to 2 hours (approx. $20 to $35 USD)
  • Shared Jeep or Tourist Vehicle: 1.5 to 2 hours (approx. $4 to $8 USD)
  • By Public Bus: 2 to 3 hours (approx. $1 to $2.50 USD)

Yes, travelling alone to Nepal is generally safe. The country is a popular destination for solo travellers due to its welcoming culture, stunning landscapes, Yoga Teacher Training courses, and rich history. Major tourist areas like Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Nagarkot are safe and well-developed for solo travellers, with plenty of accommodations, restaurants, and activities.

Food & Accommodation

The food provided at our school is vegetarian but not vegan. If you require vegan options, please inform us in advance so that our chef can prepare meals tailored to your needs.

Yes, you can use phones in the campus but not in the class

We have high-speed Wi-Fi availble all around campus.

A/C can be available at additional cost but we don't think you will need an A/C

Health & Security

If you're taking medications, you can generally find them in Nepal, especially in Kathmandu, where pharmacies are widespread. Over-the-counter medications for common ailments like headaches, colds, and digestive issues are readily available. However, for prescription medications, it's advisable to bring a sufficient supply with you, along with a copy of your doctor's prescription, as certain medicines may not be easily found or may be available under different brand names.

If you get sick during your course, we will provide you with essential support, but it's important to take proactive steps to care for yourself. If you feel unwell, it's best to notify us immediately so we can help arrange appropriate care. It's also important to listen to your body and take rest if necessary, as yoga training can be physically demanding.

Although no mandatory vaccination is required for entry into Nepal, the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend travellers get vaccinated for diseases such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, and cholera and routine vaccinations like measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), and tetanus.

Nepali cuisine, known for its variety and flavours, includes dishes like dal Bhat (lentil soup with rice), momos (dumplings), and sel roti (a type of rice doughnut). While street food can be tempting, it's essential to ensure it is cooked fresh and served hot to reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses.

We have a limit of maximum 15 students in a batch.

No, we don't have any dress code. But white clothes for ceremonies and comfortable clothes for clasees are recommended.

No, We provide common Yoga Mats and other props which you can use.

The courses suit everyone, as we are committed to teaching you yoga from its roots through all its aspects. Experience is unnecessary.

Yes, all the teachers at Akhanda Yogpeeth are qualified and renowned worldwide. All of our Teachers hold a Master's degree and RYT diplomas.

No, all students come from different parts of the world, so English is most likely their second language. The courses are easily understandable, and teachers will help you with anything.

You'll have to read a few books during your course. You can start before arrival, or once you are at the school.

Certification

To become a certified Yoga teacher, you must complete a training course and show competence in teaching a Yoga class. Find out what the suggested minimum requirements for yoga teachers are at www.yogaalliance.org. The Yoga Alliance page also lists training programs and Yoga schools that meet their minimum standards.

Yes, Akhanda Yog Peeth is registered and certified by the Yoga Alliance USA. You can find our registration here.

Yes, all the certificates are valid internationally and you can teach anywhere in the World after the course.

Yes, you'll have to pass a written and practical exam. Your performance, attendance, and behaviour will determine your fate.

General Questions

Yes, if there are any personal issues, we may be able to delay the dates of your course. The advance course fees are non-refundable. Only in an emergency can students join us on other schedules.

We recommend paying your balance fee in cash on arrival. You can also pay by card or online bank transfer, but you may have to pay extra.

We have Shared room and private room options.

To join a course in Akhanda Yoga, you will generally need a Tourist Visa. The most common visa for this purpose is the Nepal Tourist Visa, which is available for 15, 30, or 90 days duration. Upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you can obtain this visa or apply for it at a Nepali embassy in your country before travelling. The tourist visa typically allows you to engage in leisure activities, including attending Yoga Retreats or Short Yoga courses.

Most of the general items you will need during your stay in India (or their equivalent) can be easily found in the nearby shops around the corner from our yoga school. We suggest you bring any speciality item you can't live without, like a specific personal care item or favourite snack from your country.

Weather

The weather in Nagarkot, Nepal, is generally mild and pleasant, with distinct seasons. Situated at around 2,000 meters (6,500 feet), it experiences cooler temperatures than the lowlands, especially during winter. In the summer (June to August), the weather is warm, with daytime temperatures ranging from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F), although it can be cooler in the mornings and evenings. The monsoon season brings frequent rain from June to September, making the area lush and green and creating some muddy trails. Autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May) are considered the best times to visit, as the weather is clear, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 22°C (59°F to 72°F), making it ideal for trekking and enjoying the stunning views of the Himalayan range. Winter (December to February) can be pretty cold, with temperatures dropping to around 5°C to 10°C (41°F to 50°F) and occasional snowfall in higher areas.

When visiting Nagarkot, Nepal, it's important to pack clothing suited to its varying weather conditions, especially if planning outdoor activities like trekking or sightseeing. In the warmer months (spring and autumn), lightweight, breathable clothing such as T-shirts, long sleeves, and comfortable pants are ideal, along with a light jacket for cooler mornings and evenings. During the summer monsoon season, it's recommended to bring waterproof clothing, like a rain jacket and waterproof shoes, as the area can experience frequent rain. The weather can get quite cold in winter, so you'll need warm layers such as a fleece or down jacket, thermal clothing, gloves, and a hat. A good pair of trekking boots, along with a hat and sunglasses for sun protection at higher altitudes, is essential if you plan to hike. Overall, it's best to layer your clothing to adjust to the changing temperatures throughout the day.
